Day4 Energy enters the UK Solar PV Market
- Day4 60MC-I solar PV module receives Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and Kitemark certification
- Announcement marks entry into rapidly expanding UK solar market
BURNABY, BC, March 2 /CNW/ – Day4 Energy Inc., a leading global provider of solar photovoltaic (PV) products and solutions, announces it received Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) status enabling it to begin selling its Day4 60MC-I solar PV modules into the United Kingdom (UK).
An industry led and funded scheme, MCS is focused on ensuring the quality of renewable technology installations and products. Certifying micro-generation technologies used to produce electricity and heat from renewable sources, MCS is required for end users to benefit from the Feed-In Tariff (FIT) scheme launched by the United Kingdom government in April 2010.
Oregon Solar Firm Charged with Theft, Racketeering Environmental Management & Energy News Environmental Leader
Showing that the renewable energy industry is not immune to the typical trappings of commerce, a central Oregon man has been charged with bilking customers, including businesses, of their investments toward renewable energy.
Companies including Pronghorn, Aspen Lakes Golf Course and Jeld-Wen, the developer of Brasada Ranch, may have been victims to the schemes, which may have operated in a pyramid-like structure in which projects of early investors were paid for with funds from later investors, reports the Bend Bulletin.
Operating under the names New Path Renewables, Pac-Wind OR LLC and Solect Systems Inc., Eric “Gabe” Wisehart allegedly committed more than $1 million in fraud. Wisehart was arraigned on 29 counts of theft, unlicensed construction work and racketeering.
UD’s Institute of Energy Conversion involved in DARPA project to develop ‘extreme’ solar cells
9:40 a.m., June 22, 2010—-The University of Delaware Institute of Energy Conversion (IEC) is part of an industry-academic team that has been awarded $3.8 million from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the research and development office of the U.S. Department of Defense, to demonstrate solar cells that can stand up to battle conditions and environmental extremes.
The research program, “Flexible High-performance Tandem-junction PV Array,” under DARPA’s Low-Cost Lightweight Portable Photovoltaics (PoP) solicitation, is led by Ascent Solar Technologies, Inc. Headquartered in Thornton, Colo., the company is a developer of flexible thin-film solar modules and identified as ASTI on the NASDAQ.
The funding level for UD’s IEC is $647,649 for the initial 18 months of the three-phase program. The entire program is anticipated to continue over the next 54 months.
‘Kalam-NSS’ initiative to tap solar power in space
WASHINGTON (PTI): Former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam and US’ prestigious National Space Society are all set to announce their ambitious joint initiative to tap solar power in space.
“The ‘Kalam-NSS’ Energy Initiative is a transformative idea that can up shift the US and Indian economies by meeting the urgent global need for a scalable, carbon-neutral, green, 24-hr renewable power source,” CEO of National Space Society (NSS) Mark Hopkins said.
It is a game-changing technology that addresses energy security, sustainable development, climate change, and multinational cooperation, Hopkins said.
Advantages Of Hydro Power – The Alternative Energy Advantage Solar for My Home
Nowadays, due to the increasing cost of electricity. More and more people are thinking of going into alternative power sources. This is because of the fact that they are paying much in terms of electricity and they are not good enough to compensate for the energy needs of the people.
There are a lot of advantages that comes with using this kind of power. First of all, once we have the source of the hydro power, we can be assured that we have a stable power energy source. Aside from that we are able to have a lower cost of energy. Compared to having an energy that is dependent on fuel, everything else will be stable once we have hydro power as our energy source.
Palm Springs Solar Power Rebates
Do you think that converting your home to solar energy can be too expensive? For many years, solar power conversions have been expensive, but there are two things that you need to know. One is that the cost of these systems has dropped a great deal in recent years. The other is that there are numerous solar power rebates that make it easier for you to afford the green energy. These solar incentives can vary depending on where you live. If you live in Palm Springs, solar incentives can make your energy installation much more affordable.
If you would like to learn more about the Palm Springs solar panel rebate, here are the details that can make it easier for you to convert your home. Make sure you know all about these solar incentives before you choose a different power option.
Hydro energy in India
Introduction[i]
Hydropower is a renewable energy resource because it uses the Earth’s water cycle to generate electricity. Water evaporates from the Earth’s surface, forms clouds, precipitates back to earth, and flows toward the ocean. The movement of water as it flows downstream creates kinetic energy that can be converted into electricity. 2700 TWH is generated every year. Hydropower supplies at least 50% of electricity production in 66 countries and at least 90% in 24 countries. [ii]Hydropower is by far the single largest renewable energy source in India, accounting for over 10% of total electricity generation. . While most of this energy is from large hydro-electric plants, small hydro plants (up to 25 MW capacities) have also started making a dent in India.

The Cost of Solar Panels
The Cost of Solar Panels – High But Likely To Fall The Cost of Solar Panels is expected to continue to drop!
If you are on at the planning stage of installing solar panels in your homes, a basic understanding of the cost of solar panels installation and the benefit derived from it will help your decision.
AB 920: the California Solar Surplus Act of 2009
If you owned a solar power system that generated more electricity than you used, and those surplus solar electrons were sent to the grid for use by your neighbors, don’t you think your utility should pay you for that electricity? We think so.
AB 920 (Huffman), the Solar Surplus Power bill, is inherently about creating fairness within California’s solar market and about spurring ever greater consumer interest in investing in solar power bringing with it important environmental and economic benefits to the state.
AB 920 was passed and signed into law in October.
Uses Of Solar Energy Electricity
The sun’s power can be captured by photovoltaic or solar cells and converted to energy. Larger systems that use photovoltaic panels require an inverter to generate an alternate current. Solar cells can also be used for larger systems, but are generally used to power items that require less electricity. Both systems can charge rechargeable batteries, but numerous other items can be powered using these systems, as well.
Home
The most well-known option is converting a home so it can use solar energy electricity versus that provided by the local power company. This can be done piecemeal, for example, first converting only indoor lights to run on solar power. You can also convert the entire home to run on solar energy electricity, and then take the home off the grid completely, use the grid as a back-up in the event the sun or battery power is unavailable, or use the grid when the sun goes down instead of a battery system.
